In the eyes of many, Roy Jones Jr is one of the greatest fighters to have ever laced up the gloves.
The 56-year-old from Pensacola, Florida captured multiple world champions across four weight divisions throughout his professional career, racking up victories against a number of top fighters including James Toney, Mike McCallum and Bernard Hopkins.
It has been argued that Jones carried on fighting longer than he should have, with his last official professional bout coming in 2023 when he was defeated by MMA legend Anthony Pettis via majority decision.
Despite going head-to-head with some of the sport’s biggest name during his tenure, Jones has revealed there is one current fighter in particular that he wishes he could have come up against.
In a round of quick-fire questions with iD Boxing, the 56-year-old didn’t hesitate to name newly-crowned undisputed light heavyweight Dmitry Bivol as someone he wishes he could have gone up against.
Bivol defeated fierce rival Artur Beterbiev in their highly anticipated rematch on February 22 to capture all four of the 175lb world titles, just four months on from their historic first encounter in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
In another thrilling battle, which could have gone either way, the 34-year-old from Russia was declared the winner via majority decision to avenge his first career defeat which came at the hands of Beterbiev last October.
A third bout between the light heavyweight superstars is set to take place later on this year, with both fighters looking to put an end to one of boxing’s biggest rivalries in recent years.
