The outcome of a fantasy clash between Roberto Duran and Floyd Mayweather Jr has been the subject of many debates over the years.
The legendary duo had considerable success throughout their respective professional careers, although they are perhaps best known for dominating at welterweight during their prime years.
Duran captured world titles across four weight classes during his tenure, including the undisputed lightweight championship which he held in 1978. He defeated Sugar Ray Leonard to become WBC welterweight champion in the summer of 1980 but was forced to quit in their rematch 5-months later.
As for Mayweather, the Michigan native is often credited for being one of the greatest to have ever laced up the gloves. A five division world champion, ‘Money’ defeated the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao and Canelo Alvarez before his retirement in 2017, walking away from the sport with an unbeaten record of 50-0.
Speaking on Ring Champs with Ak & Barak, Roy Jones Jr gave a damning answer when asked what he believes the outcome of the fantasy match-up – predicting a Duran victory.
“Don’t do it because you’re gonna p–s him [Mayweather] off again, you already p—-d him off one time, now you’re going to p–s him off again because you already know what I’m gonna say … You don’t see it? It can’t happen, it’s not happening but I understand.”
Tensions between Mayweather and Jones have been rising over the last couple of weeks, with rumours circulating that the legendary American duo could go on to face each other in the ring at some point in the near future.
