Roy Jones Jr Names The One Fighter He Could Never KO: “He Had The Best Chin By Far”

In the eyes of many, Roy Jones Jr is often regarded as being one of the best fighters to have ever graced the sport.

Jones entered the paid ranks back in 1989, drawing the curtain on his successful amateur career which saw him capture a light middleweight Olympic silver medal at the 1988 Games in Seoul, Korea, though most onlookers felt he deserved the gold medal.

He captured world titles across four weight classes throughout the course of his professional career, with the bulk of his success coming during the 1990s where he racked up victories over the likes of Bernard Hopkins, Mike McCallum and James Toney.

Perhaps the most famous victory of his tenure came in March 2003 when he stepped up to heavyweight to dethrone WBA champion John Ruiz, defeating his fellow countryman via unanimous decision at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

In an interview with The Ring Magazine, Jones revealed Argentina’s Jorge Castro as the toughest fighter he faced throughout his career, as he claims he hit the former world middleweight champion with ‘everything’ when they clashed back in 1992.

“Jorge Castro by far. You could hit him with the kitchen sink and he kept coming. I hit him with everything including the kitchen sink and still just kept coming.”

Jones faced Castro during the earlier stages of his career, outpointing the tough Argentinian at the conclusion of their ten round bout in Pensacola, Florida.

Castro would go on to capture the WBA middleweight title with a victory over Reggie Johnson in August 1994, making four successful defences of his crown before he was dethroned by Japan’s Shinji Takehara just over one year later.

In 114 fights, Castro lost just 11 times and was stopped only twice.
