Roy Jones Jr believes Floyd Mayweather ducked one fighter in particular during his glittering career.
‘Money’ Mayweather is often regarded as being one of the greatest fighters of all time, remaining unbeaten throughout the course of his 21-year tenure.
He defeated all 50 of his opponents before his retirement in 2017, including the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao, facing the latter in the ‘Fight of the Century’ back in 2015.
Aside from remaining unbeaten as a professional, Mayweather captured multiple world championships across five weight divisions, ranging from super-featherweight up to super-welterweight.
In recent weeks, Mayweather has been involved in an ongoing feud with fellow boxing lefend Roy Jones Jr, leading to insults to be thrown back and forth between the pair.
That has been evident again, as speaking on Ring Champs with Ak & Barak, Jones sensationally claimed that he believes Mayweather ‘ducked’ former light-welterweight champion Amir Khan, admitting the Brit was the only fighter that ‘had a chance’ of defeating the former pound-for-pound great.
“Hey, in my opinion the only person that really had a chance in his weight class back then was Amir Khan, he wouldn’t touch Amir Khan that time. Amir had two good feet. He wouldn’t fight Amir Khan, Amir Khan had two good feet I already know this,”
There had been speculation that Mayweather and Khan came very close to facing each other at one point, but a showdown between the duo never did come to fruition before the end of their respective careers.
Khan became a two-time world light-welterweight champion during his tenure, sharing the ring with the likes of Canelo, Terence Crawford, Marcos Maidana and Marco Antonio Barrera to name just a few.
