Roy Jones Jr Didn’t Hesitate When Asked To Name His Best Ever Win: “He Was Pound-For-Pound No1′

Roy Jones Jr had a legendary career to rival any boxer.

He is widely regarded as one of the best to ever lace up a pair of gloves, winning an Olympic medal as an amateur and then becoming a four-weight world champion in the professional ranks.

His first world title came at middleweight, before claiming world honours at super-middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight, becoming the first former middleweight champion to win a world heavyweight title in over 100 years.

He became undisputed at 175lbs, and defeated some of the biggest names in the sport during his career, including Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, Felix Trinidad, Antonio Tarver and John Ruiz.

Jones has now named which victory he feels was the best of his career, telling The Overdogs Podcast that his win over Toney was the number one.

“When I fought James Toney. I’m not hating on nobody but when you fight a guy and they’re at the pinnacle of his career, now you’re doing something.

You can beat him when he’s at his best, now you’re getting somewhere. I fought James Toney when he was at his best, 44-0. He was pound for pound the best fighter in the boxing at the time. I went up to him. I did that when he was 44-0.”

Jones dominated the fight against Toney, earning a unanimous decision win, with the judges scoring it 119-108, 118-109, 117-110 in his favour.

Along with reflecting on his own incredible career, Jones has recently discussed some of boxing’s current top stars, and didn’t hesitate to pick a winner in a potential match-up between Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson.
