Roy Jones Jr agrees that Moses Itauma could go all the way to the top of the heavyweight division, but the former multi-weight champion and trainer also sounded a note of caution about his career going forward.
Itauma turned 21 in December last year and has been moving quickly through the ranks.
He has now had 13 contests and won all of them in impressive fashion. 11 wins have come by knockout, nine inside the first two rounds, and even former world title challenger Dillian Whyte didn’t provide any more of a test when he was stopped inside two minutes last year.
Speaking to Clubhouse Boxing, Jones Jr explained how Itauma can become a champion but warned him and his team not to move too fast.
“He could be the next dominant force for sure, as long as he doesn’t get moved too fast. Sometimes we see guys who just want to throw them out there quickly. It all depends on their background, how they came up and whether they can take that pressure.
“It depends on how well this guy understands the pressure, how bad he wants it. He can do anything he wants to do cause he has all the ability. There is nothing that should stop him becoming world champion unless he’s moved too fast, ’cause if you put him in with Usyk right now it’s too fast.”
