Jake Paul has reiterated his desire to secure a world title shot in the near future.
The 28-year-old from Cleveland, Ohio will make his long-awaited return to the ring this month when he faces former WBC world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
It will be Paul’s first ring appearance since he defeated 58-year-old heavyweight legend Mike Tyson via unanimous decision in their controversial eight round bout at the AT&T Stadium in Texas last November.
Aside from his upcoming showdown with Chavez, ‘The Problem Child’ is also said to be in discussions for a catchweight bout with reigning WBA world lightweight champion Gervonta Davis, with the pair set to lock horns before the end of the year.
Speaking to Prime Casino, boxing legend Roy Jones Jr gave an honest assessment on whether he believes ‘The Problem Child’ can become a legitimate world champion, paying homage to the 28-year-old’s punching power saying he can ‘knock anybody out’.
“The whole purpose [behind the fight] is creating the argument for Jake Paul to fight for a world title. That’s what he really wants to do. And it’s not bad the way he’s going about it. He’s creating that argument, and eventually, if he keeps going, he’ll get a shot.
“I ain’t gonna say that [he will win a title], but he’ll get a shot depending on who the opponent is, but he will get a shot, and he has the power to win anything. He can knock anybody out.”
Victory over Chavez Jr could push Paul one step closer to achieving his career-long dream of securing a shot at a world title, albeit against all odds.
