Roy Jones Jr sees only one winner in a fantasy fight between Floyd Mayweather and Sugar Ray Leonard.
Mayweather compiled an undefeated professional record, retiring 50-0 in 2017. Known for his defensive mastery, speed, and ring IQ, he won world titles in five weight divisions from super featherweight to super welterweight.
Mayweather beat top fighters like Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya, and Canelo Álvarez, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest defensive boxers of all time.
Leonard was a dynamic, multi-division champion who fought during boxing’s golden era. He also won world titles in five weight classes and defeated legendary opponents like Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns, Marvin Hagler, and Wilfred Benitez.
Leonard was known for his speed, skill, and charisma, and he played a key role in reviving boxing’s popularity in the 1980s.
If there is a debate about which superstar of the sport would win a fantasy fight, fellow great Jones Jr doesn’t see it. Speaking to ATS Fight, he clearly sided with Leonard.
“To me, people don’t give him enough credit. People always say ‘Well Floyd would have beaten Sugar,’ no baby, Floyd is not as nearly as mean as Sugar was.
“How? How you gonna keep him off him? Sugar is a dog. People don’t understand. Just because his name’s Sugar don’t mean nothing! Sugar is a dog, people don’t give him enough credit for that.”
Sugar Ray has praised Mayweather as an incredible technician, however has said that he likely would not have kept hold of his famous 0 had he been competing alongside the famous Four Kings of himself, Duran, Hagler and Hearns.
