Roy Jones Has No Doubt Who Wins Prime Mayweather vs Crawford: “If He Can’t KO Him Early It’s Over”

Boxing fans continue to debate about a fantasy match-up between Floyd Mayweather and Terence Crawford.

Both fighters are widely regarded as being the best of their respective generations, with Mayweather becoming a five-weight world champion and putting together a perfect 50-0 record after wins over fighters such as Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez.

Crawford also holds a win over Canelo after stepping up two weight divisions in September to become undisputed super-middleweight champion, making him the only man to ever be undisputed in three divisions after also managing it at 140lbs and 147lbs.

It has led to debates over who would come out on top in a bout between Mayweather and Crawford, and now boxing legend Roy Jones Jr has offered his view.

Speaking to Titan Play, Jones felt that unless Mayweather could get an early stoppage, it would be a victory for Crawford.

“That’s not a very good fight. If Mayweather can’t hit him early in the first round and knock him out, that fight’s over. Crawford is mean. He’s a dog. He doesn’t care about nothing and nobody.

“He hasn’t been protected. I was unprotected on purpose — I didn’t want a manager because I didn’t want protection. Crawford couldn’t get protection. They said he couldn’t sell tickets. They tried to smear his name and say he couldn’t sell tickets.

“That’s why he got in the ring with anybody – to prove he belonged among the best. That’s the hunger people appreciate – proving you’re among the best, not manipulating the game to fight the biggest names at the right time.”

Jones has found himself embroiled in a feud with Mayweather over the past few months, but recently stated it wouldn’t be ‘fair’ for him to face his countryman.
