Tyson Fury has just been dealt the first loss of his professional career by Oleksandr Usyk, the second man to become undisputed at both cruiserweight and heavyweight. So how would he fare against the first to do it, Evander Holyfield?
In the division’s last undisputed championship bout some 25 years ago, it was a reverse of the result in that the smaller man, Holyfield, was beaten by career-long heavyweight Lennox Lewis.
Roy Jones Jr, no stranger to climbing the weight classes and winning world honours, spoke to Sports Illustrated to predict some fantasy bouts, and backed Fury to beat ‘The Real Deal’ Holyfield should they have ever met in their primes.
“Riddick Bowe gave Evander all kind of problems. He’s not even as tall as Tyson Fury, so I definitely will go with Tyson Fury on that one.”
Jones logged his prediction for the match-up before Fury fell short against Usyk, the Ukrainian emulating Holyfield’s success in the two top divisions. Whether or not that would change his view remains to be seen.
Fury will have a second crack at getting the win over Usyk this coming December in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In a statement released this week, the Morecambe man admitted to ‘shortcomings’ in the fight but assured fans he was coming for redemption.
