Hall of Famer Roy Jones Jr appears to have made his final decision on a potential bout with Jake Paul.
The 56-year-old from Florida had put himself forward for a clash with the YouTuber-turned-boxer, who is currently on the hunt for a new opponent ahead of his return to the ring next month.
Paul had been set to face WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis in Miami this Friday before the fight was scrapped after ‘Tank’ found himself at the centre of a civil lawsuit regarding domestic allegations.
Boxing legend Jones was last in action back in April of 2023 when he suffered a majority decision defeat to former MMA star Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis at the conclusion of their eight round bout in Wisconsin.
In an interview with talkSPORT BET, Jones revealed that he is ‘no longer open’ to sharing the ring with Paul, as he claims he isn’t interested in ‘chasing’ the 28-year-old.
“He doesn’t want that smoke. I’m not really open to it anymore. I used to be. I’m not open to it anymore. I don’t chase people, and I don’t chase money. They want you to keep chasing, or chasing money, I’m not doing that, I’m not that guy.
“And once I see you tell me no once, just like when I was fighting, if you tell me no twice, I’m good. You don’t want to fight? Okay, cool, I’m good, I’m through with it. I’m not gonna beg you to fight. That’s not who I am.”
Whilst he has officially ruled out a potential clash with Paul, Jones has left the door open for a return to the ring in the future, despite him approaching his 57th birthday.
As for Paul, the 28-year-old from Phoenix has been linked with fights against the likes of Anthony Joshua, Andre Ward and Nate Diaz.
