Roy Jones Jr has spent time working with Chris Eubank Jr. and has been speaking about his chances versus Conor Benn.

For a brief period, Jones was Eubank’s coach. The former multi weight world champion hooked up with the Brit back in 2020 and saw him through successful fights with Marcus Morrison, Wanik Awdijan and Liam Williams.

Their final fight together was the first fight Eubank Jr had with Liam Smith in 2023. It ended with his first knockout loss, and a parting of the ways between the two men.

Eubank avenged the loss in the rematch under the tutelage of Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre with a knockout of his own and is now just weeks away from finally facing off with Benn in their long-awaited grudge match.

Benn has fought just twice in the last two years while attempting to clear his name after testing positive for a banned substance ahead of the first scheduled fight with Eubank back in October 2023. Both were points wins against low level opponents, so many wonder if the natural welterweight will be able to show the power he once displayed when he goes up in weight to face Eubank at 160lbs.

Speaking to iFL TV, Jones gave his view on that exact subject, saying Benn’s ‘neutralising power’ could absolutely make a difference in the fight.

“This fight being like it is, I think Chris is too big, but Benn does have neutralising power and Liam Smith showed us that if you catch him right you can get him down. We don’t know, we think that Eubank wins the fight, but it won’t be that easy ’cause Conor can punch and can be a problem for a little while.”

The bout takes place on April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and has already had a fiery build up.
