Evander Holyfield is widely regarded as one of the best heavyweights of his generation.
After becoming undisputed champion at cruiserweight during the late 1980s, Holyfield moved up to heavyweight in an attempt to rule that division.
He was able to accomplish that goal, knocking out Buster Douglas to become undisputed at heavyweight, and was the only man to have done so in both of those weight classes up until Oleksandr Usyk also achieved it earlier this year.
During his prime years throughout the 1990s, Holyfield beat a number of other icons during his career, including Mike Tyson and Larry Holmes, but did come unstuck against fighters such as Lennox Lewis and Riddick Bowe.
That has led to boxing legend Roy Jones Jr sparking a debate, revealing to Sports Illustrated the current fighter he feels would have beaten Holyfield, and that is Tyson Fury.
“Riddick Bowe gave Evander all kinds of problems, and he’s not even as tall as Fury so I definitely would go with Tyson Fury on that.”
Fury is a two-time world heavyweight champion, first claiming world honours when he upset the odds and defeated Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 to win the WBA, WBO and IBF belts.
After relinquishing his belts citing struggles with mental health, Fury returned several years later and went on to become world champion again, defeating Deontay Wilder in 2020 to win the WBC heavyweight title.
Fury held that belt until earlier this year before losing it in the undisputed showdown with Usyk, but the two men meet in their rematch later this month.
