Roy Jones Jr has been speaking about Jake Paul‘s likelihood of becoming world champion in the future.
It was the latest victory for the YouTuber-turned-boxer, having also claimed a controversial win over Mike Tyson during his career, along with wins over former MMA fighters Anderson Silva, Nate Diaz and Tyron Woodley.
One man who has also been linked to a clash with Paul over the years is boxing legend Jones Jr, and the multi-weight world champion has now been speaking about whether ‘The Problem Child’ can also earn world honours at some stage.
Jones Jr had previously claimed that he felt Paul had what it takes to become world champion, but he’s seemingly now made a U-turn on that belief, telling Fight Hub TV that he doesn’t think it will happen.
“No. I think if they make him fight tough opponents, guys with experience, those guys would beat him. Now if you’re against someone like myself or like Tyson at the end of their career, the chances are much higher, because now it becomes a 50-50.
“You’ve got a guy who’s better than him but the age factor, that’s what balances it for him to make it a 50-50 fight. Somebody who is on his level at the same age, those guys have too much experience, so he’s not going to beat those guys. But you fight a guy that is past their prime who has the mentality further than his, but past their prime, it evens the stakes.”
Paul has been ranked in the WBA top 15 at cruiserweight following his win over Chavez Jr, meaning he is now eligible for a fight against unified champion Gilberto Ramirez.
