Roy Jones Reveals His Honest Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano Rematch Winner: “No Disrespect”

Katie Taylor versus Amanda Serrano was another standout, all-action war between two of the best female boxers of all time.

These two fighting icons first clashed back in April 2022 at Madison Square Garden in New York in a bout hailed as one the fights of the year. The thrilling contest was packed with relentless aggression from both and, at the conclusion of the 10 rounds, it was Taylor who emerged victorious to keep her status as undisputed lightweight ruler.

The rematch was held last weekend on the undercard of Mike Tyson versus Jake Paul and it delivered once more as Taylor endured early trouble while Serrano suffered a severe cut from a head clash. Despite a point deduction, Taylor went on to claim a close but unanimous decision with all scorecards reading 95-94.

Having called the fight from ringside, former world champion Roy Jones Jr gave his honest view on the contest winner to All The Smoke Fight.

“I wanna say this without having any disrespect to anybody cause that’s not what I’m here for but you got to call it as you see it. I think both fights could have just as easily gone to Serrano as they did to Katie Taylor.

Your promoter is promoting the fight, the first fight is in your backyard, I feel you won the first fight bigger than the second, but they didn’t give you the fight in your own back yard and your own guys are promoting the fight.

That’s kind of strange to me. Secondly, this time, Katie did better in the second fight than she did in the first fight. But if they didn’t give you the first fight in your own home town with your promoters, why would they give you the second fight if Katie did better?”

He then said he thinks Serrano did enough.

“Both landed some good power shots. [Taylor] hit [Serrano] with some pretty decent punches that were kind of telling. I think Amanda probably edged it out again but I didn’t expect them to give it to Amanda cause if they didn’t give it to her in her home town, I didn’t expect them to give it to her on equal turf.”

Another Hall of Fame fighter in Timothy Bradley also revealed that he thinks Serrano won whereas former cruiserweight world champion Tony Bellew believes the result for Taylor was fair.

The controversy has opened the door for a trilogy, which both fighters have said they are willing to do.
