Roy Jones Jr can see only one winner when Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul share the ring in the United States later this month.

Joshua has not fought for more than a year when he was dominated and then stopped inside five rounds by then IBF ruler Daniel Dubois.

He has been recovering from elbow surgery ever since he shocked the world when he announced he would be fighting Paul over eight rounds with standard 10-oz gloves, live on Netflix.

Joshua is a hugely experienced heavyweight who has won 28 of his 32 fights. He stands 6ft 6 tall and will weigh considerably more than Paul, though he will have to come in under 245lbs.

Paul has had just 13 fights and campaigns at cruiserweight, with his best wins coming against former MMA stars or fighters well past their best, not least Mike Tyson, who was 58 years old when they fought in November 2024.

Speaking to FIghtHype, boxing legend Jones was asked for his view on the contest.

“Jake’s gonna fight a real fighter, and if the real fighter fights like a real fighter then Jake’s gonna take a real nap cause AJ showed you against Ngannou he’s not one of these guys you just pick off the street and say I’m gonna fight AJ.

Nah, AJ is an Olympian, AJ is a former world champion, AJ is a two-time world champion, AJ is nothing to play with. If you’re gunna fight AJ, have your mind right because if you can’t take it, he gonna find out.”

Jones is not alone in his prediction, with most people seeing this going only one way.
