Boxing legend Roy Jones Jr has predicted the expected rematch between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach Jr.
‘Tank’ Davis and Roach fought to a split decision draw when they faced each other at the Barclays Center in New York on March 1.
It was a career best performance from Roach, who came extremely close to dethroning ‘Tank’ and becoming the first man to defeat the 30-year-old from Baltimore.
Davis took a knee during the ninth round of the contest after being on the receiving end of a jab from ‘The Reaper’. but referee Steve Willis did not rule this as an official knockdown, sparking intense controversy within the boxing world.
One person who has shown an interest in the highly anticipated second showdown between ‘Tank’ and Roach is retired four division world champion Jones Jr, who believes he knows exactly what will happen in the rematch.
Speaking to Pro Boxing Fans, Jones was asked to give his prediction for the rematch, as he backs ‘Tank’ to turn up to the second fight having made some important changes.
“I think he [Roach] shocks the world again, but the only thing different this time is Tank will come with a different attitude, a different personality, different motivation, and I think Roach will do good again but I think Tank will be more dominant this time.”
Although an official announcement is yet to be made, it is expected that the rematch between Davis and Roach will take place this summer after both fighters were said to have already agreed on a second showdown against one another.
