Roy Jones Jr Is Certain Who Wins Floyd Mayweather vs Prime Sugar Ray Leonard Fight

Hall of Famer Roy Jones Jr has predicted the outcome of an intriguing fantasy clash between Floyd Mayweather and Sugar Ray Leonard.

Mayweather and Leonard are regarded as being two of the greatest fighters to have ever laced up a pair of gloves, proving their credentials throughout the course of their respective professional careers.

‘Money’ Mayweather became a world champion in five weight classes during his 21-year tenure, defeating a number of generational greats along the way including Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao before his retirement in 2017.

Five-weight world champion Leonard took the sport by storm during the 1980s where he became a member of ‘The Four Kings’ alongside former rivals Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran and Thomas Hearns, racking up at least one victory each over this legendary trio.

Many boxing figures have debated who would have come out on top were Mayweather and Leonard to ever meet, and now four-weight world champion Jones has weighed in with his thoughts.

Speaking on All The Smoke Fight, Jones didn’t hesitate to back Leonard to defeat Mayweather had they faced each other, as he claims the legendary American doesn’t get ‘enough credit’ from the boxing world.

“To me, people don’t give him enough credit. People always say ‘well Floyd would beat Sugar.’ No baby, Floyd is not as nearly as mean as Sugar was.

“How you gonna keep him off him? Sugar is a dog, people don’t [understand], just because his name is Sugar don’t mean nothing, Sugar is a dog, people don’t give him enough credit for that.”

Perhaps the most famous victory of Leonard’s glittering professional came when he faced Duran for the second time in November of 1980, forcing the Panamanian icon to quit during the eighth round of the infamous ‘No Mas’ fight in New Orleans.
