Terence Crawford will make a two-division jump to face Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez later this year. Roy Jones Jr is no stranger to moving up weight classes and making history.

Jones began his professional career as a middleweight and steadily climbed the ranks, then capturing titles at super middleweight, light heavyweight, and even heavyweight.

He showcased his versatility and dominance across different divisions – a testament to his natural talent and dedication to the sport. In particular, the four-weight world champion’s ability to adjust his fighting style and maintain his speed and power against larger opponents solidified his reputation as one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters in boxing history.

A man looking to emulate that is ‘Bud’ Crawford, already a two-weight undisputed champion and with belts in four divisions. The Canelo fight is undoubtedly the toughest test of his career, however, requiring a further 14 pounds to make it up to super-middleweight.

Canelo boasts one of the best chins in the business, having never been put down and rarely seen hurt. He is undefeated at 169 pounds, and has been beaten by just Floyd Mayweather (152 pounds) and Dmitry Bivol (175 pounds) in his 66-fight campaign.

Speaking to the media about the fight, Jones said it is in the Mexican’s hands.

“It’s Canelo’s fight to lose.”

The Hall of Fame fighter said that one wrong step in the gameplan of Alvarez and Crawford will win, showing great respect for the smaller man.

The fight is signed for September in Las Vegas, with Crawford sitting out until then but Canelo facing William Scull for the chance to become two-time undisputed at super-middleweight and add an extra carrot for Crawford later in the year.
