The legendary Roy Jones Jr has given Terence Crawford some important advice after he pulled off a historic victory over Canelo Alvarez.
Crawford wrote his name into the boxing history books on Saturday night when he dethroned Mexican superstar Canelo of his undisputed super-middleweight championship at a sold out Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
‘Bud’ made the move up to 168lbs for the first time in his career ahead of his clash with Canelo, putting on an impressive display to prove his doubters wrong and become the first male fighter in the history of the sport to win an undisputed championship in three weight classes.
The judges scored the bout 115-113, 115-113 and 116-112 all in favour of the 37-year-old Omaha-native, who had set a fast pace from the outset and ultimately proved to be too slick for his Mexican rival on the night, handing him just the third defeat of his career in the process.
To most fans, Crawford is now viewed as the pound-for-pound number one fighter in the sport, a spot that boxing legend Jones Jr himself held for many years throughout the 1990s.
Speaking to Boxing King Media just moments after Crawford was declared the winner, Jones Jr shared his thoughts on what he believes his countryman should do next after pulling off the best victory of his glittering career.
“If I were Bud, I would just retire because who gonna top what he did?”
Whilst many fans and analysts have called for Crawford to walk away from the sport, it appears that the unbeaten American is set to continue with his career despite achieving so much up until this point.
