Hall of Famer Roy Jones Jr has made a sensational u-turn on his original prediction for the upcoming super-fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.

The pound-for-pound greats are set to do battle for the Mexican’s undisputed super-middleweight championship next Saturday night at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Canelo will make his first defence of his undisputed crown at 168lbs against ‘Bud’ in what is his second reign as champion, after he defeated Cuba’s William Scull to add the IBF super-middleweight to his collection back in May.

Their much anticipated showdown has captured the attention of boxing fans all over the world, with many even considering it to be one of the biggest fights in the history of the sport.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, four-division world champion Roy Jones admitted that whilst he initially gave his backing to Crawford, he now admits it’s a ‘little bit harder’ to pick a winner at this stage.

“Initially I thought maybe Canelo didn’t have the hunger to go out there and really try keep Bud off him or try to go at Bud. When I heard he had Jaron Ennis in camp, it made me realise that he really is trying to prepare, because Jaron Ennis is probably the only other person that can really logically and realistically fight left handed or right handed which is what he’s going to see from Bud.

“I still think Bud has the skills to beat anybody on any night but so does Canelo … I was kind of leaning more towards Bud in the beginning but now I see that Canelo is taking it really serious it’s a little bit harder … Canelo is comfortable in the weight, Bud’s comfortable in the ring, that being said it’s just going to be who can be most comfortable.”

The stage is set for ‘The Fight of The Century’ as two of the biggest names in the sport gear up to battle it out in just a week’s time.
