Hall of Fame great Roy Jones Jr has been keeping a close eye on Errol Spence Jr ahead of his long-awaited comeback to the sport.
Spence is yet to make a return to the ring after he was handed the first defeat of his professional career to Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford back in July 2023.
‘The Truth’ was outclassed by his fellow countryman in their showdown for the undisputed welterweight championship at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, suffering a ninth round stoppage defeat to the pound-for-pound great.
It has been suggested on more than one occasion during 2025 that the 35-year-old from Long Island could compete before the end of the year, although it now looks likely that the former WBC, WBA and IBF welterweight champion will now box in the early-to-mid stages of 2026.
Speaking to Fight Hype, four-weight world champion Jones Jr spoke fondly of Spence, having spent some time watching him train over the last few weeks.
“He looked good. Looked very good to me. Like I said, to see that glow in him again, it made me feel good.”
One man in particular that could welcome Spence back to boxing in 2026 is unbeaten super-welterweight contender Vergil Ortiz Jr, who currently holds the WBC interim world title at 154lbs.
Ortiz recently admitted that a showdown with Spence would be a ‘dream fight’ for him, as he sets his sights on facing his countryman at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington should the opportunity present itself to him, though a clash against Jaron Ennis may be more likely for Ortiz.
