Andy Ruiz Jr could well be back in the boxing ring against a former star of the heavyweight division.

Ruiz himself is a former unified world heavyweight ruler. He famously beat Anthony Joshua as a late stand-in opponent back in June 2019 when Jarrell Miller failed a drug test late in the day.

Ruiz survived an early knockdown and went on to put Joshua down twice before stopping him inside the distance. Six months later, however, he surrendered the belt in the rematch, having gained plenty of weight in the interim.

Ruiz has fought just a couple of times since, as well as dealing with a hand injury. He drew with Miller last time out and beat Luis Ortiz and Chris Arreola before that.

In a new post on Instagram, Ruiz can be seen facing off with Deontay Wilder and added the caption:

“Coming soon to a ring near you.”

This would represent a hugely entertaining fight, as Wilder is also a former champion and fearsome knockout artist. However, after an impressive run of KOs once he picked up the WBC belt, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ was eventually dethroned at home in the United States by Tyson Fury, and lost two of the three fights in their bruising trilogy overall.

He has also been relatively inactive since losing on points to Joseph Parker and being stopped by Zhileh Zhang back in 2024, though he got back to winning ways last time out in June when he stopped Tyrell Hernedon.

As of yet, no date or venue has been mentioned for what would likely be a much-anticipated bout.
