Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez finds himself having to make a key decision on his future after he was defeated for the third time.
The 35-year-old from Guadalajara was dethroned of his undisputed super-middleweight championship by pound-for-pound great Terence Crawford on September 13.
As rumours begin to circulate about what could be next for the Mexican icon, Canelo’s former stablemate Ryan Garcia has shared his thoughts on what he believes the four-weight world champion should do next.
In an interview with Covers, Garcia claimed that whilst he believes it would make sense for Canelo to retire, he says that he should continue fighting if he still ‘loves the sport’.
“Why not [retire]? [Canelo Alvarez] made all the money. Did everything he could possibly do, undisputed. What’s the point of fighting? I don’t see it, but hey, if you love the sport and want to keep going, do it.”
Alvarez recently broke his silence on what’s next. He will not be taking the advice of Garcia, and instead pursuing a rematch with Crawford. Despite the result being convincing and many fans uninterested in seeing it again, there are not many options out there for the former undisputed champion from Guadalajara.
