Gervonta Davis looks all set for a rematch with Lamont Roach Jr following a wildly controversial draw.

The pair fought a close twelve rounds that ended in one judge scoring it for ‘Tank’ Davis 115-113 but the remaining two unable to split the, having it 114-114 apiece.

A majority draw means Davis retains his WBA Lightweight World Title, but many in the sport feel he deserved to lose it due to taking a knee in the ninth round. Referee Steve Willis bizarrely did not call a knockdown but, if he had, Roach would have ran out a points winner.

Though the New York State Athletic Commission has ruled that the fight result will not be overturned, the WBA may order an immediate return fight and both Davis and Roach have said they want it to happen.

Speaking to ES News, Ryan Garcia – who was stopped by Davis in 2023 – backed his former opponent to win the rematch after being caught off guard by the challenge of Roach first time around.

“I got Tank. I think he’ll show a different gear. I think he just thought it was gonna be easier than it was, kind of thought that Roach would fold and he didn’t. Now, he should expect a harder fight and I think [Tank] wins the rematch.”

Roach has said he is ‘disappointed’ with NYSAC’s decision, but signed off with: “Everyone knows I won the fight and I’m satisfied with that. Part 2 on the way.”

‘Tank’ says he can be ready as early as May to run it back.
