Ryan Garcia has reacted to the news that Anthony Joshua will be making his long-awaited return to the ring against Jake Paul next month.
The two-time unified world heavyweight champion is set to face ‘The Problem Child’ over eight rounds on Friday November 19 at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.
Paul was last in action back in June when he defeated Mexico’s former WBC world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr via unanimous at the conclusion of their cruiserweight clash in California.
As for Joshua, the 36-year-old from Watford has been away from the sport since he suffered the fourth defeat of his professional career to countryman Daniel Dubois in their showdown at Wembley Stadium in September 2024.
Speaking on the Inside The Ring, Ryan Garcia said that a bout against Joshua is the ‘worst possible fight’ for Paul, who has received multiple warnings from the boxing community ahead of his clash with the British heavyweight.
“If he could win 1 or 2 rounds, to me that’s a W. You know what I mean? So this fight is probably the worst fight that Jake Paul could have took out of all the fights that he probably had a choice, you know?”
“This is a big dude. Heavyweight … I think he’s just addicted to doing huge fights … He’s probably think maybe his chin is suspect, maybe he’s not even thinking about me, so I’m gonna come in and hit him with my right hand. Cause he believes that his right hand is as strong as Wilder’s, the way he talks. I think he’s seen Dubois drop Joshua with the right hand and he’s thinking ‘I can do that, that’s my shot.'”
‘The Problem Child’ was initially pencilled in to face WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis on November 14, but their ten round exhibition contest was cancelled after ‘Tank’ found himself at the center of a domestic violence allegation.
