Jake Paul returns to the ring in June to face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

The ten round fight will be at cruiserweight and may end up for a title of some sort, with the WBA President Gilberto Mendoza previously floating that idea.

Paul is coming off the back of a controversial win over former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, who was 58-years-old when they fought last November.

Speaking to the media recently, Garcia asked the question many have about Chavez Jr’s current dedication to the sport before wondering whether or not the style will be a problem for Paul.

“Oh s**t … I really don’t know what state Julio is in. Is he [good]? I mean, can Jake handle a Mexican pressure fighter? It’s tough if you’re not used to that, you know?”

In his prime, Chavez Jr – son of Mexican boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez – held the WBC Middleweight World Title and, with 62 fights under his belt, certainly brings plenty of experience to the ring. He has fought and lost to the likes of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, Sergio Martinez and Danny Jacobs, but claimed wins over names such as Marco Antonio Rubio and Andy Lee.

He will, however, be fighting just for the second time at cruiserweight and suffering from inactivity having only fought once in the last four years – a points win over Uriah Hall. In 2021, he lost to MMA star Anderson Silve in the boxing ring, a man Paul went on to beat.

The 39-year-old Chavez has warned Paul that he is the toughest test of his career and has vowed to show him ‘real Mexican style.’
