Ryan Garcia and Oscar De La Hoya’s partnership appears to have turned sour once again.

Legendary fighter-turned-promoter De La Hoya has guided Garcia’s professional career under the Golden Boy Promotions banner since the back end of 2016.

Garcia has been the subject of intense controversy over the last 18-months, culminating in him failing a doping test prior to his April 2024 showdown with former undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney.

He made his long-awaited return to the ring against Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero on May 2, suffering a unanimous decision defeat to his fellow countryman at Times Square in New York City to lose out on the chance of becoming WBA ‘regular’ world welterweight champion.

As he prepares to make his return to the ring and put what has been a difficult 18-months behind him, Garcia has sent a scathing message to promoter De La Hoya after ‘The Golden Boy’ appeared to disturb his fighter whilst he was at a party recently.

Speaking on social media, Garcia urged De La Hoya not to contact him unless he is able to offer him a fight that would earn him somewhere in the region of $20 million, hinting that their professional relationship could be coming to an end.

“Don’t ever hit me up unless you have a $20 million deal for me. Okay, Oscar? Don’t ever call me unless you have a $20 million fight. Do you understand? Get off my f**** phone, Oscar.”

Despite this, ‘King Ry’ remains under contract with Golden Boy Promotions until 2026 and was expected to return to the ring after recovering from an operation that he had on his right hand at the end of May.

With rumours circulating that Garcia could face Romero in a rematch next, De La Hoya has quashed this speculation and revealed that they will be taking the 26-year-old down a different route instead.
