After weeks of speculation, Ryan Garcia has confirmed his return to the ring by signing a deal to face a reigning world champion.

The 27-year-old from California last fought back in May when he suffered a shock defeat to now WBA world welterweight champion Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero at Times Square, New York City.

There had been rumours circulating about a potential rematch between Garcia and Romero taking place before the end of the year, although these plans were scrapped after ‘King Ryan’ suffered a hand injury which required surgery.

Despite stating that he would be open to facing Britain’s Conor Benn next, Garcia has now signed a deal to face reigning WBC world welterweight champion Mario Barrios in the first quarter of 2026.

As revealed on a clip posted on social media, ‘King Ryan’ is set to lock horns with Barrios at an unconfirmed location in the United States on Saturday February 21.

“I promised you guys I would have this video for you, my next fight announcement. Here goes the contract. Right here like I promised you guys … I’m going to be fighting for the real WBC championship belt against Mario Barrios, February 21st, get ready because I’m coming.”

Barrios was last in action on July 19 when he fought to a majority draw against Manny Pacquiao, although it has been argued by fans and analysts that the Filipino great had done more than enough to dethrone ‘El Azteca’.
