Gervonta Davis has knocked out 28 of 30 opponents and is known as one of the biggest punchers in the sport, pound-for-pound.

The rumours that the 30-year-old lightweight from Baltimore has stopped heavyweights in sparring are hard to deny when his power is witnessed. Often content to drop early rounds, ‘Tank’ Davis bides his time before pouncing with a ferocity that puts tough fighters flat on their backs.

His most high profile stoppage came against Ryan Garcia last year. The lucrative event saw both men enter the ring undefeated before, despite an aggressive start, Garcia was served his first defeat.

The 26-year-old hit the canvas after a perfectly timed left hook in the second round. His eagerness to bring the fight to ‘Tank’ was significantly curbed. When he attempted it again in the seventh, he was dropped and stopped by a sneaky body shot.

Surprisingly, and perhaps unbelievably, Garcia was asked on the Jack Alter YouTube channel to rate Davis’ power and replied ‘he cannot hit hard,’

“He cannot hit hard I’m telling you. It’s his accuracy. The punches that you don’t see are the ones that hurt you. Not the ones that you do see. There are some people that even if you see it, that s—t hurts. He’s not like that. He’s what he is, he’s an accurate sniper. He’s a sniper.”

Davis will return to the ring on March 1 next year to defend his WBA Lightweight World Title against super-featherweight belt holder Lamont Roach Jr. Garcia is currently on the sidelines serving a doping suspension that ends in April. He has been vocal about rematching ‘Tank’ in the future.
