Ryan Garcia returns after his one-year suspension when he faces former world champion Rolly Romero tonight.
Garcia was last in action in April 2024, when he went up against Devin Haney at the Barclays Center in New York.
It was set to be for the WBC super-lightweight title before ‘King Ry’ missed weight, but that didn’t stop him putting in a great performance as he defeated Haney on points.
The result didn’t stay that way for long though, as Garcia tested positive for a banned substance, meaning it was overturned to a no contest and ‘King Ry’ was subsequently handed a 12-month ban.
With his ban now up he turns his attention to Romero, the former WBA super-lightweight champion who won the belt with a stoppage win over Ismael Barros in May 2023.
He lost his belt to Isaac Cruz last March, but returned with a points win over Manuel Jaimes in September, and will now be looking for the biggest win of his career against Garcia.
Provided that ‘King Ry’ is victorious at Times Square in New York this evening, he could be set for a rematch with former foe Haney later this year.
