Billy Joe Saunders Reveals Who He Wants To Face In Comeback Fight: “I’ll Smash Him To Pieces”

Billy Joe Saunders has not fought for more than three years, but could still come back for a battle of some sort.

Saunders was a talented, fleet-footed boxer at the height of his career. He had great athleticism and slick defence, and won world titles in the middleweight and super-middleweight divisions, with wins over the likes of Matty Korobov, Andy Lee and David Lemieux, having also beaten Chris Eubank Jr more than a decade ago.

He came unstuck in his last fight when he stepped to take on Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in May 2021 and was stopped by an uppercut that smashed his orbital bone.

Since then, he has often teased a comeback, and last week it was revealed that bare-knuckle fighter Matty Floyd had flown from Australia to meet Saunders outside a pub.

Speaking to Boxing King Media, Saunders suggested he would be up for fighting Floyd.

“This Australian fella, Matty Floyd, he’s been giving me a bit of abuse on social media however, he rocked up a week later. I’m not an alcoholic. I’m not going to be in the pub 24/7.

“However, when I do see him and when I catch him around the shows he won’t have to wait for BKFC to get involved, I’ll smash him to pieces. They have got in touch and offered me some good, good money so I might speak to some CEOs and I might go in and absolutely destroy him in two minutes and pick up a million quid.”

Floyd is a former WBO and WBC Asia title winner who was in the UK recently to fight former boxing world champion James DeGale in his BKFC debut, though he lost on the cards.
