Billy Joe Saunders is one of only three men to have defeated Chris Eubank Jr.
They met over a decade ago, with Saunders winning by split decision to retain his British, Commonwealth and European middleweight titles and hand Eubank Jr the first defeat of his professional career.
In the years that have passed since, Saunders went on to become a two-weight world champion at middleweight and super-middleweight, while Eubank Jr is once again campaigning at 160lbs after a period at 168lbs, but is yet to capture a genuine world title.
Some fans believe that may no longer be his aim, now that he is set to take on Conor Benn at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April, nearly three years on from their first planned bout in October 2022.
That fight fell through on fight week after Benn failed a drugs test, but he is now once again eligible to fight and will be stepping up in weight for the clash with Eubank Jr, continuing the rivalry that was started by their fathers in the 1990s.
Saunders has now given his take on the fight whilst speaking to BoxNation, believing that Benn is capable of knocking out his former foe.
“As of late he’s looked a little bit old should we say, and don’t forget Eubank’s not the kind of boxer to get on behind his jab, get a nice lead, use his footwork, he’s been in some scraps and he’s been in some good scraps with not the best opponents but they’ve still give him some good work.
“I just think if Conor catches him clean and can follow up on one of them good shots, sort of like a Liam Smith shot, I think Conor Benn knocks him out.”
Saunders isn’t the only former world champion who thinks that the fight will end in a stoppage, with ex-cruiserweight king Tony Bellew also feeling the same way.
