Canelo Alvarez successfully defeated William Scull to once again become undisputed super-middleweight champion in May.
Canelo came out on top in the fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, paving the way for his showdown against fellow pound-for-pound star Terence Crawford in September.
Many fans expected it to be a dominant performance from the Mexican superstar against Scull, but instead it was rather lacklustre, with Canelo only managing to win the fight by unanimous decision.
The two men only threw a combined 445 punches throughout 36 minutes of action, which was recorded by CompuBox as the fewest ever in a 12-round fight. Despite the lack of action, Alvarez did land some significant shots on Scull on the rare occasions he was able to catch up with him.
With that in mind, Scull has revealed to Fight Hub TV exactly how hard Canelo hits, insisting, “I didn’t feel any punches.”
“I didn’t feel any punches. We just kept executing our strategy, the plan for this fight. We didn’t need to change anything because I didn’t feel that he was hurting me at all.”
Canelo’s power has seemingly been lacking at 168lbs in recent years, having now gone the distance in six straight world title fights dating back to September 2022.
Some fans feel that he will need to put in a much-improved performance against Crawford later this year, despite the fact that ‘Bud’ is stepping up two divisions from 154lbs, having won the WBA super-welterweight title in his last contest in August 2024.
The fight between Canelo and Crawford was set to take place in Las Vegas on Friday 12 September and he promoted by TKO, but some recent developments has seen changes to both the date and promotional outfit.
