Shakur Stevenson has shared his thoughts on the possibility of Jake Paul becoming a world champion.
Despite the controversy surrounding his professional boxing career, Paul recently took a significant step closer to achieving his dream of challenging for a legitimate world title.
Victory over Chavez secured Paul his first ever world ranking, going in at number 14 with the WBA just ahead of hard-hitting American contender Craig Parker, which has led to extreme criticism from Parker himself and many other big boxing names.
Speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show, Stevenson acknowledged the progress that Paul has made recently, before going on to back his countryman to become a world champion.
“I think, actually, Jake got tremendously better from the timeframe he started until now. And, in the right situation, I could also see him become a world champion. Yeah.”
Stevenson said that he can see why Paul has been ranked, recognising the reality that there are more factors at play and it is not based entirely on merit.
‘The Problem Child’ has already called out unified world cruiserweight champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez and WBC champion Badou Jack, although the 28-year-old has also expressed an interest in a clash with former unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, with the duo said to be keen on locking horns soon.
