WBC world lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson has weighed in on the upcoming clash between Vergil Ortiz Jr and Erickson Lubin.
Ortiz has established himself as one of the most exciting contenders in the sport over the last 18-months, racking up victories over the likes of Serhii Bohachuk and former WBA super-welterweight champion Israil Madrimov.
Florida-native Lubin will be looking at securing himself another world title shot at 154lbs should he be victorious over Ortiz, having fallen short to former WBC world champion Jermell Charlo back in October of 2017.
Speaking on social media recently, Stevenson admitted that whilst he ‘respects’ both fighters ahead of their clash, he says is is backing Lubin to get the job done.
“Rocking with my bro Erickson but big respect to both fighters Vergil a dog and take real risk!!”

Ortiz has been tipped to go on and face former unified welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis should he defeat Lubin, with reports suggesting that the unbeaten duo have agreed a deal in principle to lock horns in the first quarter of 2026.
Lubin will have his sights set on spoiling Ortiz’s plans however and cementing himself as a serious contender at super-welterweight once again.
