Shakur Stevenson has weighed in on the controversial fight between Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis.

WBA Lightweight World Champion ‘Tank’ Davis has shunned a warranted rematch with Lamont Roach Jr in favour of this money-spinning bout with Paul, which is expected to be an exhibition given the huge gulf in size – 65lbs as of their last contests – between the two.

The stipulations on weight, as well as how many rounds and other rules, are yet to be decided, though Paul will have to come down at least from the 200lbs cruiserweight limit somewhat and Davis is expected to pack on some pounds from his usual class.

Speaking to TMZ, ‘Tank’ rival and fellow 135lbs world champion Shakur Stevenson said that he is not surprised by the fight announcement.

“I’m not shocked. When he fought Lamont, Jake Paul was at the fight. He told y’all he was gonna fight somebody like Jake Paul, so It don’t surprise me.”

On the major difference in weight and frame, Stevenson said he does not seeing it impacting how he believes the fight will go – a clear Davis decision against essentially a novice or early prospect in Paul.

“Size will play some part in the fight. If I’m thinking like I’m Tank, I’m probably just gonna go out there and try to outbox him. Use my knowledge and IQ against him. I can see Tank just outboxing him and making it real easy.”

Stevenson was then asked how much of a chance he gives Paul, even to land a lucky shot. It is none.

“No. Nope. Not at all. Tank has been boxing his whole life. I doubt [Jake Paul’s power] is gonna be an issue. I think Jake is good for where he’s at, but I think there’s just levels … ‘[Tank wins] by decision. That guy’s too big, I don’t think he’s gonna knock that guy out. I don’t see him knocking him out, no.”

Will he watch the fight?

“Hell no.”
