Current lightweight world champion Shakur Stevenson has given his view on the upcoming fight between Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr.

This is a fight that has got the whole world talking given that the rivalry goes back decades when their fighting fathers came to blows in high profile TV bouts in the 90s.

Their own rivalry began in 2022, when the Brits were due to settle their differences in October of that year. However, a positive drug test meant Benn had to be pulled from the card and has been fighting to clear his name ever since. After he was eventually cleared to fight last year, negotiations started again.

The contest sees Benn moving up two weights to take on the naturally bigger and more experienced Eubank. The build-up has already seen controversy when Eubank slapped an egg on the side of Benn’s face, and he was duly fined for his actions.

Speaking on The Ring Podcast, Stevenson was asked for his take on the contest and said people don’t realise Eubank’s skill level.

“I met Conor Benn, he’s a cool dude. Everybody talks about how mean he is, but whenever I ran into him he was a cool dude, he showed me good energy.

I think that’s a hard task just because Chris Eubank, he’s a guy with subtle boxing skills, like you ain’t really noticing how good he is. He’s a pretty good fighter, I think it’s a hard task.

Good luck to Conor, but I can’t really say how the fight goes but I’m rooting for Conor Benn. We gotta commend those guys who are willing to jump up two weight classes.”

The fight takes place at Tottenham Hotspur’s Stadium on April 26th.
