WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson has summed up the boxing ability of future opponent Teofimo Lopez ahead of their upcoming world title showdown.

Lopez is set to make the fourth defence of his WBO super-lightweight title against Stevenson at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City on January 31.

Stevenson is bidding to become a world champion in a fourth weight class having already captured world honours at featherweight, super-featherweight and lightweight during his career to date.

Brooklyn-native Lopez was last in action back in May of 2025 when he comprehensively defeated countryman Arnold Barboza Jr via unanimous decision at the conclusion of their world title showdown at Times Square in New York.

Speaking on ALL THE SMOKE FIGHT, Stevenson spoke positively about Lopez’s boxing ability but says he believes he has what it takes to ‘capitalize’ on the mistakes that his countryman makes in fights.

“I think he’s the truth, I think he’s the truth. He do a lot of things well. I think he’s flashy. I think it’s just some basic stuff. I think it’s some basic stuff where I feel like he makes mistakes and I think I’m gonna capitalize off the mistakes.”

Lopez has suffered just one defeat during his career to date, falling short to Australia’s George Kambosos Jr in their three-belt lightweight unification showdown at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in November of 2021.
