Shakur Stevenson and Gervonta Davis is, despite being one of the most intriguing fights in the sport, continuing to elude fans.
Both men are currently competing in one of the most talented divisions in the sport, and are joined at the top table by two other champions in Vasiliy Lomachenko and Denys Berinchyk.
Following a knockout win over Frank Martin, ‘Tank’ Davis entered into talks with Lomachenko, but the Ukrainian later pulled out with a ‘lack of motivation’ to fight again in 2024. It left many in the sport to call it a ‘duck,’ but others pointed out that the same happened in the reverse years ago.
Asked by DAZN Boxing if he feels Davis ‘ducked Lomachenko’ when both were competing at super-featherweight in 2017, Shakur was clear in his answer.
“Yes, I do.”
Stevenson has previously accused ‘Tank’ of swerving a fight with him, too.
Of course, ‘Tank’ will deny all of the above and point to the fact that he actively tried to secure the Lomachenko unification this year, albeit when the general consensus is the Ukrainian is past his fighting prime at 36-years-old. Despite his lay-off now, he has confirmed it is not retirement so, in theory, all match-ups between the three champions can still be made.
For Stevenson’s part, his new promoter Eddie Hearn has set out a clear three-step plan – Joe Cordina on October 12, then William Zepeda, then ‘Tank’ Davis, which at that time the Brit believes will be the biggest fight in boxing.
