Shakur Stevenson is currently recovering from hand surgery but has sights firmly set on a February 2025 return.
The Newark native was forced to pull out of a scheduled second defence of his WBC Lightweight World Title against former super-featherweight champion Joe Cordina on October 12 due to the sparring injury.
“They claim Zepeda to be a punching machine they say he a monster, well I’m gonna dismantle him after a 7 month lay off and surgery… And all you people who think he’s like that better have the same energy after the fight cause February he will take his first loss, that’s my word and he only gonna be an example of what’s to come!!
Then they gonna say he was trash, he was not that good, that’s the future it’s already predicted, See y’all 2025. Y’all ask for my best after I get these hands together, I promise the best version of myself.”
Zepeda is in the unique position of being ranked number one with all four sanctioning bodies at lightweight, in theory having his pick of the champions.
The Mexican volume puncher is 31-0 in his professional campaign and has the style that many feel will bring out the best in Stevenson – something the champion has been accused of not showing in his previous two bouts when he cruised to uneventful points wins.
First up for Zepeda is Tevin Farmer on November 16 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Should Stevenson then put in the performance he has promised and beat him, fans will want to see him step in with Gervonta Davis.
