Shakur Stevenson has announced a promotional partnership with Eddie Hearn‘s Matchroom and the pair have big plans.
The three-weight world champion from Newark split from Top Rank this year and has now aligned himself with Hearn to ‘be unstoppable in and out of the ring.’
Along with the business announcement came fight news – Stevenson will welcome former super-featherweight world champion Joe Cordina to the lightweight ranks to christen the partnership.
On the Matchroom YouTube channel, Hearn laid out what comes next.
“What we do is we go Joe Cordina, William Zepeda, Gervonta Davis. For me, once we’ve done our work over that six month period, Gervonta Davis against Shakur Stevenson will be the biggest fight in boxing.”
William Zepeda is ranked number one with all four sanctioning bodies in the 135 division and has recently been mentioned alongside Shakur.
Stevenson-Gervonta Davis is already one of the most sought after bouts in boxing with the clash of styles being one of the most intriguing there is. ‘Tank’ has knocked out all but two of his 30 opponents, whereas Stevenson has a less than 50% knockout ratio but is one of the least hittable fighters in the sport by the numbers.
Hearn, upon signing the 27-year-old, said he could be unbeatable.
“I am delighted to welcome what I believe is a pound-for-pound great to the Matchroom team. Shakur Stevenson is 27 and already a three-division World champion and might be unbeatable in the sport of boxing.
This young man should be a global superstar, and I believe with our machine behind him, he will land all the big fights and receive all the credit that he deserves.”
The next chapter begins on October 12 with Cordina in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
