Shane McGuigan Predicts Derek Chisora vs Deontay Wilder: “I Wouldn’t Be Surprised”

Shane McGuigan has given his breakdown on what he thinks will happen when Derek Chisora and Deontay Wilder step into the ring together.

This is a mouth-watering heavyweight showdown between big names who are edging towards the end.

Both are over 40 years old, and both have had 49 fights up to now. Wilder once ruled for many years as the WBC champion thanks to having one of the hardest and most effective right hands the division has ever seen, while Chisora has never won a world title.

Chisora has won his last three against Otto Wallin, Joe Joyce and Gerald Washington, while Wilder has been stopped twice by Tyson Fury, once by Zhilei Zhang and lost on points to Joseph Parker since 2022.

Speaking to Seconds Out, McGuigan predicted a win for ‘Del Boy’ and explained why.

“I think Chisora will beat him. A few years ago, you would have said Wilder would have done him, but I don’t know, I saw that last fight Wilder had, where he stopped the guy in the fifth round, but he’s trying to put combinations together. He’s wasting his goodness.

“I don’t know if he has the same snap that he once had. You need that. Derek Chisora has a chin where he can take X amount of power up to 90, if you go over 90 you’re going to stretch him. If you’re at 88, he’ll take them all day long.

“You need to have that one punch, which is mad to say we’re taking about Wilder not having that but he didn’t seem to have that one punch explosive knockout. But I wouldn’t be surprised if he does stretch him.”

If Chisora were to win, he might find it hard to walk away from the sport, especially if a world title fight with Oleksandr Usyk were dangled in his path. However, it is Wilder that Usyk has said he is more keen on fighting at some point this year.
