‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley has predicted the outcome of a fantasy fight between Floyd Mayweather and Gervonta Davis.
Mayweather and ‘Tank’ worked together during the early stages of Davis’ career, before their professional relationship deteriorated and came to an abrupt end back in 2022 after a number of financial issues surfaced between the pair.
There have been a number of insults exchanged between both men across their respective social media pages since their split, sparking rumours that they could actually face one another in what would be ain intriguing bout to say the least.
One fighter who has weighed in on a fantasy showdown between ‘Money’ and Davis is Shane Mosley, who fought Mayweather in a non-title bout back in May 2010. Though Mosley lost on the cards, he rocked Mayweather and buckled his legs with some huge shots early on.
Speaking to The Art Of Dialogue, Mosley backed his former rival to prevail against ‘Tank’ had they fought during their respective primes, although did say that the younger man’s power gave him a chance.
“Floyd Mayweather I think wins. Pretty easily at 135. He’s a little taller, he’s faster, he’s a boxer. I don’t think Gervonta would be able to get close to him. He wouldn’t be able to counterpunch Floyd cause he’s too short.
“At the same time, I rocked Floyd pretty good. Gervonta seems to have the same type of power I possessed when I was younger. There’s another thing, Floyd didn’t like to fight southpaws back then … So that is a possibility, cause he didn’t like to fight southpaws. I still think Floyd would’ve got him, but there’s a question mark there because Gervonta Davis does punch hard and he could crack him.”
Mayweather has not fought as a professional since he defeated MMA legend Conor McGregor in a huge crossover fight back in 2017. The 48-year-old from Grand Rapids, Michigan has had a number of exhibition contests since then however, facing the likes of Logan Paul, Tenshin Nasukawa and John Gotti III.
