Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez has accepted the challenge of Terence Crawford, and former heavyweight world champion Shannon Briggs is absolutely certain how the fight plays out.

Crawford made his debut at super-welterweight in August of last year, winning the WBA World Title from previously undefeated Israil Madrimov.

Like Canelo, he has won belts in four divisions. However, the American faces the extremely tough task of jumping up a further two classes to face the Mexican, who is currently unified champion at super-middleweight.

Though many in the sport feel packing on 14 pounds to face Canelo, who has arguably the best chin in the business, is a step too far for a man of even Crawford’s skill level, Briggs doesn’t agree.

The hard-hitting heavyweight who scored 37 first round knockouts in his career told Fight Hub TV he fully expects Crawford to stop the bigger man.

“Yeah, he gonna do it. He gonna win. He’s gonna win by knockout. He’s gonna do whatever he has to do. He’s gonna dog him, he’s gonna be strong, he’s gonna throwing hard punches. He knows this is what he wanted all his life. I’ve known him since he was a little kid. 10, 11-years-old. He can fight, and he’s gonna win. Trust me, I’m telling y’all.”

In 66 fights Canelo hasn’t touched the canvas and is rarely seen to be hurt. He has lost just twice to Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol on points, though never defeated in the super-middleweight ranks.

He will hope to continue that pattern when he faces IBF Champion William Scull in May to become undisputed once more – an extra carrot for Crawford, who will sit out until their fight in September.
