Former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs has revealed who he believes can be the first fighter to knock out Mexican icon Canelo Alvarez.

Canelo has proved himself to be one of the best fighters of his generation over the years, winning world titles at four weight classes including the undisputed super-middleweight championship twice.

The 35-year-old from Guadalajara has defeated a number of generational greats along the way, including the likes of Sergey Kovalev, Miguel Cotto and Gennady Golovkin, suffering just three losses himself since he made his debut back in 2005. He has, however, never been put down or stopped.

Canelo made his return to the ring back in September, suffering a unanimous decision defeat to pound-for-pound great Terence Crawford in their historic showdown at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, surrendering his four belts in the process.

Speaking to Fight Hype, former heavyweight champion Briggs shared his thoughts on the monumental clash, before claiming that he believes ‘Bud’ can become the first fighter to stop Alvarez should a rematch between the duo take place.

“Great fight, it was great, everybody was excited. I thought that Terence was gonna stop him, that’s what I had called before the fight and everybody was like ‘You’re crazy’ I was like ‘Watch dude’, if you look at the last round Terence was stepping up, you know what I’m saying? So I think if there was a fight again, Terence knows that he can stop him.”

Crawford etched his name into the boxing history books with that victory over Canelo, becoming the first male fighter of all time to win a four belt undisputed championship in three weight classes.

There is no rematch clause for the bout, but many feel that Canelo’s only option is to push for it to happen next. Crawford, so far, has remained tight-lipped on what he plans to do next, though he will have plenty of offers.
