The theories around why the Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul fight played out the way it did continue to grow.
Tyson and Paul fought over the weekend in a highly-publicised showdown, although it didn’t live up to to the pre-fight build-up as it was a difficult watch at times for most fans.
‘Iron Mike’ found it tough to show glimpses of the fighter that became the youngest world heavyweight champion in history, with Paul controlling the action for the majority of the bout.
To the relief of most onlookers, Paul wasn’t able to get the knockout against his 58-year-old opponent, but did run out a comfortable winner against Tyson, with the judges scoring it 80-72, 79-73, 79-73 after eight two-minute rounds of action.
The magnitude of the event helped to illustrate the incredible rise of Paul, who only made his professional boxing debut four years ago and now holds a record of 11 wins and one defeat.
One man who feels he helped pave the way for Paul on his journey is former world heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs, who worked with ‘The Problem Child’ during the early stages of his career.
Briggs was an interested observer when Paul and Tyson met, and he revealed whether he felt that the fight may have been pre-determined beforehand.
“No, I don’t think it was rigged. I think Mike should have thrown more punches.”
Boxing legend and ex-Tyson rival Evander Holyfield was another former world heavyweight champion that had a major interest in the fight, and he needed just five words to sum up Paul’s performance.
