Former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs has predicted the outcome of a potential clash between Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather.
It was revealed at the beginning of last month that the legendary American duo will lock horns in an exhibition bout during the early stages of 2026, with an official announcement on the date and venue set to be made in due course.
Tyson made a sensational comeback to the sport last November just shy of 20 years on from his last ring appearance, suffering a unanimous decision defeat to YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Texas.
As for Mayweather, the retired five-weight world champion hung up his gloves shortly after he defeated Conor McGregor in the 50th and final bout of his tenure back in 2017, although he has participated in a number of exhibition bouts since then, facing the likes of Logan Paul and Tenshin Nasukawa.
The proposed match-up has garnered a lot of differing views from the boxing world, and now ex-heavyweight champion Briggs has had his say.
Speaking to Hip Hop Is Real, Briggs shared his thoughts on the potential clash between ‘Iron Mike’ and Mayweather, as he claims he would not ‘bet against’ Tyson should the bout actually come to fruition.
“Yeah I heard about that too champ, and first I thought it was a joke but I don’t know, it might be real, so you know we going to see it. Never bet against Mike right?”
Whilst Tyson claimed that he would be going back into retirement following his showdown with Paul last November, the 59-year-old has once again left the door open for yet another comeback to the sport, much to the frustration of some fans and analysts around the world.
