Former Heavyweight Champion Shannon Briggs Predicts Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua: “Going With Him”

Shannon Briggs has been asked to predict what will happen if Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury ever come to blows.

This heavyweight showdown between the two Brits is one of the biggest fights that can be made in world boxing.

That holds true even though, right now, neither man has a world title, despite them both having long ruled over the division in previous years.

Fury is, in fact, currently retired and has been since an announcement in January, which came just weeks after his second consecutive defeat to Oleksandr Usyk. He also lost to the same man back in May 2024 when Usyk became the first undisputed heavyweight ruler since Lennox Lewis in 1999.

Joshua has also lost twice to Usyk, also on points both times. He has since rebuilt with KO wins over the likes of Otto Wallin, Robert Helenius and Francis Ngannou, but last time out in September 2024, he was stopped inside five rounds by the young IBF champion, Daniel Dubois.

Speaking to MailSportBoxing, former heavyweight world champion Briggs was asked for a winner between the two Brits were they to meet.

“Um, tough one. Pick ’em. It could go either way. I’m gonna go with Tyson Fury.”

Many hope that Fury will renege once more on his latest retirement decision and step into the ring with Joshua for a legacy-defining fight.

Joshua has not fought since September, and is currently out recovering from an elbow injury, but should return later this year with names like Dillian Whyte and Deontay Widler having been mentioned as potential comeback opponents.
