Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois face off in front of a record-breaking 96,000 fans in Wembley Stadium.
Dubois was recently elevated to IBF World Champion and makes his first defence against ‘AJ’, who can become just the sixth heavyweight in history to win the title on three seperate occasions.
The match-up is intriguing regardless of belt status – the pair have 45 knockouts between them and have both been stopped inside the distance. It may go early or it could be cagey to start, but there are very few, if any, in the sport predicting it goes twelve.
Speaking to IFL TV, former heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs predicted a knockout for Joshua.
“It’s gonna be a tough fight for a round or two, of course AJ has to be careful. I think it’s gonna be a great fight for a couple rounds, who can establish the jab first – in this case, the jab wins the fight – and who can land that big right hand first. That’s the person that’s gonna win the fight.
I’m leaning towards Anthony Joshua based on experience. He throws his right hand straighter, a little straighter. Dubois he has a great overhand right, but one thing about Anthony’s, it’s perfect. That right hand is perfect down the pipe like out of a gun. He shoots it straight like an arrow. Who gets to the destination first? They say a straighter line gets to the destination first, so hey, that right hand lands it’s goodnight Irene.”
Briggs also praised Dubois’ toughness but said ‘AJ’ is a beat faster, reinforcing his opinion that the former champion will beat the younger man to the punch.
